Supporting Speech, Language and Communication Needs
At The Oaks Infant School, we use an abundance of visuals to support children with speech, language and communication needs. Visuals provide a concrete, consistent and accessible way for children to understand and express themselves. It provides a method of communication which enables our children to feel included.
We also use visual aids to support structure and learning such as visual timetables, now/next boards, choice boards and writing frames.
With some children, we use Makaton sign language to support the spoken word.
