Admissions

The admissions process can be quite daunting. The first thing we would like to say is that if ever you have any questions regarding admissions and you are unable to find the answer below or if you just need reassurance, please call us! We are here for you and we are always happy to help.

Tours for admissions in September 2021:

Due to Covid-19, this year we will have a video tour which will be on our website w/c 5th October. We also understand that some parents would like to have a look around the school to get a feel of the full flavour of life and learning here at The Oaks.

We are pleased to be able to offer limited tours, however please read the information below regarding measures we have put in place to make this a safe visit for everyone.

All tours will take place on Fridays (which then allows a 48 hour ventilation period for the school).

Please ensure you understand these important points before deciding to book onto a tour:

  • Please make sure you watch the video before coming to the parent tour (it will be on the website in the w/c 5th Oct at the latest)
  • Unfortunately this year children cannot be accommodated because of the pandemic – if families turn up with children they will not be allowed in the premises
  • A maximum of two people per family (one is preferable). You will be asked to give the names, telephone number and an email address of the adults who will be attending.
  • There will be a maximum of 8 families per tour meaning each group is no larger than 16 adults
  • Unfortunately there is NO flexibility on dates and times
  • You must wear a face covering at all times on site
  • Please be on time for your tour (no earlier or later)
  • Toilets will not be able to be used
  • The tour will last approximately 30 minutes
  • You MUST NOT attend the tour if you or any other member of your household are self-isolating or showing symptoms of Covid-19

Please see below for our full risk assessment for Parent Tours this year.

Frequently Asked Questions

My child is not yet close to school age how can I register my interest?

All you need to do is download the "Register of Interest Form" and return it to us. Click here to download the form. Although this does not guarantee a place at The Oaks, it will let us know that you are considering The Oaks as one of your choices and once tour dates are set and it's time for you to apply for a school place formally, we will contact you.

My child is already in school and I'm looking for a place at The Oaks.

If you are looking for a place in either Reception Year, Year 1 or Year 2 for your child during the academic year you need to apply by completing an "In-Year Admission" form. Click here to download the form. Once completed please return to the school office marked ‘Admissions - Administrative Officer’. You are also invited to call us at school to find out if we have any school places.

Can I visit the school before I apply?

(Please note: this answer does not apply to 2020 tours due to the pandemic) We highly recommend you come and visit us before you apply. It is really good for you and your child to see our school in action and to hear what we are about. Around October each year we organise tours for you to come and see the school, meet the Headteacher, staff and children from both The Oaks and our linked junior school, Minterne.

Admissions Criteria:
Although we are an academy, the Local Authority manage the admissions process on our behalf.

Our Admissions Policy can be found on our Policies page and below.

If you still have questions regarding admissions please contact KCC Admissions team on 03000 41 21 21 or email kentonlineadmissions@kent.gov.uk

My child has been offered a place. What do I do next?

If you apply for a place at school for entry September 2021, you will be notified by KCC in April 2021. You must read the offer letter carefully and in particular adhere to dates for accepting / refusing an offer. If you wish to accept the offer due to the current Covid-19 situation, you need to email admin@oaks.kent.sch.uk with the following information:

  • I wish to _ (Accept/Refuse) the place offered at ___(Full name of the school)___.
  • Child’s full name
  • Date of Birth
  • Pupil ID number (on you offer email/letter)
  • Parent’s name
  • Address evidence (as itemised in the Acceptance and Refusal Guide which is a link in your offer email for both you and your child as of 15th January 2020) to be scanned / photographed and attached to an email to admin@oaks.kent.sch.uk.

Once school has returned, we will need to see sight of your child's birth certificate and the originals of the proof of address evidence. Please do not send any evidence in the post.

I applied for a place at The Oaks but was not offered a place.

You have a right to appeal against the Local Authority’s decision. If you have been unsuccessful at gaining a place at the New Intake Reception Year, you can appeal and / or add your name to the school held waiting list.

My child is moving up to Junior School

If your child attends The Oaks there is an admission link with Minterne Junior School, however you will still need to complete the application process. Applications will have the same launch dates and closing dates as those for Infant/Primary Schools but they will be worded slightly differently. You can find more information on the KCC admissions link below.

Admissions into The Acorn Centre

By attending The Oaks your child will not get any priority admissions into The Acorn Centre. This is often a myth which parents believe and choose our school because they think they will more easily get their child into this specialist provision. Admissions to The Acorn Centre are agreed only through the Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) process. Admissions criteria for The Acorn Centre can be found on the Policies page of this website.
