Admissions for Reception

The admissions process can be quite daunting. The first thing we would like to say is that if ever you have any questions regarding admissions and you are unable to find the answer below or if you just need reassurance, please call us! We are here for you and we are always happy to help.

Tours for admissions for September 2024 intake:

The Oaks are happy to announce our parent tours for Reception children due to start school in September 2024. Tours will be held on the following dates and times:

Monday 9th October 2023 - 9:30am -11am

Thursday 23rd November 2023 - FULLY BOOKED

Tuesday 5th December 2023 - FULLY BOOKED

Thursday 11th January 2024 - 9:30am - 11am

Tours will include a presentation at The Oaks by Senior Leaders from both The Oaks and Minterne and tours of both schools too. In previous years, parents have welcomed the opportunity to be able to see Minterne too, as it then helps you to see what your child's whole primary school journey would be.

To book onto one of these tours, please call the school office on 01795 423619.

Unfortunately, we do not have capacity to accommodate children on these tours, therefore please arrange alternative childcare if possible. There will be an opportunity, if your child secures a place, for them to visit the school nearer the time of admission.

We look forward to welcoming you soon!

Frequently Asked Questions

My child is not yet close to school age how can I register my interest?

All you need to do is download the "Register of Interest Form" and return it to us. Click here to download the form. Although this does not guarantee a place at The Oaks, it will let us know that you are considering The Oaks as one of your choices and once tour dates are set and it's time for you to apply for a school place formally, we will contact you.

My child is already in school and I'm looking for a place at The Oaks.

If you are looking for a place in either Reception Year, Year 1 or Year 2 for your child during the academic year you need to apply by completing an "In-Year Admission" form. Click here to download the form. Once completed please return to the school office marked ‘Admissions - Administrative Officer’. You are also invited to call us at school to find out if we have any school places.

Can I visit the school before I apply?

We highly recommend you come and visit us before you apply. It is really good for you and your child to see our school in action and to hear what we are about. Around October each year we organise tours for you to come and see the school, meet the Senior Leaders, staff and children from both The Oaks and our linked junior school, Minterne.

Admissions Criteria:
Although we are an academy, the Local Authority manage the admissions process on our behalf.

Our Admissions Policy can be found on our Policies page and below.

If you still have questions regarding admissions please contact KCC Admissions team on 03000 41 21 21 or email kentonlineadmissions@kent.gov.uk

My child has been offered a place. What do I do next?

If you apply for a place at school for entry September, you will be notified by KCC in April. You must read the offer letter carefully and in particular adhere to dates for accepting / refusing an offer, as well as the evidence that needs to be seen at school.

We will need to see sight of your child's birth certificate and the originals of the proof of address evidence. Please do not send any evidence in the post.

I applied for a place at The Oaks but was not offered a place.

You have a right to appeal against the Local Authority’s decision. If you have been unsuccessful at gaining a place at the New Intake Reception Year, you can appeal and / or add your name to the school held waiting list.

My child is moving up to Junior School

If your child attends The Oaks there is an admission link with Minterne Junior School, however you will still need to complete the application process. Applications will have the same launch dates and closing dates as those for Infant/Primary Schools but they will be worded slightly differently. You can find more information on the KCC admissions link below.

Admissions into The Acorn Centre

By attending The Oaks your child will not get any priority admissions into The Acorn Centre. This is often a myth which parents believe and choose our school because they think they will more easily get their child into this specialist provision. Admissions to The Acorn Centre are agreed only through the Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) process. Admissions criteria for The Acorn Centre can be found on the Policies page of this website.
