How Does Your Garden Grow?
This Term our role play has transformed itself once again into...Notcutts Garden Centre!
The children have been busy over the Easter Holiday growing their own plants and flowers to put in here. We have already been having lots of fun pretending to be customers and shop staff and have enjoyed investigating the seeds, tools and compost in our tuff spot!
This week we have enjoyed cutting, slicing and chopping a variety of fruit and vegetables. We have used magnifying glasses to look even closer inside them and have used exciting adjectives to describe them!
The Garden Gang
This week in English we have been reading 'The Garden Gang' stories. We designed our own ‘Garden Gang’ character and named it, using alliteration. We created a plan and then used it to write our own story.
Here is Daisy's story...
We have been investigating the life cycle of a sunflower. We planted our own sunflowers and are looking after them.
We looked at the painting called, 'Sunflowers' by Vincent Van Gogh and created our own sunflower paintings and collages.
We chose our own resources and even used real sunflower seeds in our master pieces!
In Maths this week we have been making totals and finding different ways to make the same total.
Can you practise finding totals at home? Perhaps you could play 'shops' with your grown-ups and put it on to Tapestry for us to see?
Royal Wedding Fever!
To end our 'How Does your Garden Grow' topic, we celebrated by having a May Day celebration.
The children show cased Topic and English work and also sang songs about growing and danced around the maypole. We celebrated the forthcoming royal wedding tomorrow by drinking homemade lemonade and eating rainbow fruit kebabs.
