Hello and welcome to The Wider Curriculum page!
The Wider Curriculum at The Oaks covers each of the Foundation Subjects of Geography, History, Computing, Art and Design, Design and Technology and Music. We also cross over with Religious Education and the Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) development of the children within our school.
Within our team we are passionate about ensuring that through the Wider Curriculum our children have access to meaningful learning opportunities that are relevant and responsive to each child as an individual. These will encourage children to fully engage with their learning, feel valued and ultimately have a thirst for more!
The Wider Curriculum in embedded throughout the Early Years, following a child-led approach to learning. In Key Stage 1 the children access the Wider Curriculum through class Topics that are inspired and planned following the children's own interests.
Please see below for Key Stage Topics so far or see individual class pages for a deeper insight into the children's learning.
The 'even' Wider Curriculum
We have also introduced the ‘even’ Wider Curriculum this year and will be focussing on promoting extra-curricular activities and opportunities both inside and out of school.
Last year we were extremely proud to have given children the chance to take part in events such as the Brogdale Flower Art afternoon and a Combined Concert with Minterne. This year some children have already taken part in artist workshops to create paper lanterns for the Swale Fusion Festival of Light. We have also begun to make links with outside organisations such as ‘No 34’ and Kent Music to plan further exciting opportunities for this year. So watch this space!
