Our day trip to Whitstable
The children had a fantastic day at the beach.
We excitedly boarded the coach and arrived at Whitstable harbour just after 10am. It was a very windy start to the day and the sea was very choppy. It was so windy that Miss Buddle almost lost her coat and Daisy's hat blew off her head and into the harbour. On the way home we decided that it probably would end up in France or on the top of a whale in the sea!
We headed straight to the RNLI boat house where we met Susan and David and they told us all about the amazing work the volunteers do to keep us safe in the water. Did you know the crew have 5 minutes to reach the boat house if there is an emergency? They have a special beeper that alerts them if they are needed. They also told us all about the lifeboat 'Lewis' and his amazing tractor that has two steering wheels. We saw the special safety clothes the crew wear and learnt about the equipment that is on board Lewis.
After, we went for a walk around the harbour and looked at the fishing boats and huts. We also went into the fish market and saw all the fish you could buy for dinner.
Next stop, a rest and a yummy ice cream with a chocolate flake ! It was a bit windy but that didn't stop us.
Then, after a toilet break, we went for a lovely walk along the beach and saw some beautifully, brightly painted beach houses. When we reached the castle grounds we sat with our friends and enjoyed a picnic lunch in the sunshine. A well earned rest after a bracing walk in the sea air.
Next stop was the castle play area. We enjoyed a short walk through the castle grounds and admired the flowers and the castle on the way. We had lots of fun in the play area climbing on the boat, going down the slide, playing on the swings and spinning on the roundabout.
Then it was back to the beach. Unfortunately it was too choppy for us to go paddling in our wellies but Mrs Wynn and Miss Miller let us play on the beach and take turns throwing pebbles into the sea.
Finally, we headed back to coach for a sleepy trip home.
Phew!! What a fun filled, busy day.
