Picture 1

Welcome back to Ladybirds Class after our Christmas break. We hope you had a lovely Christmas and are looking forward to coming back to nursery.

This term we are looking at traditional stories and how we can use these to help our development in all seven areas of learning. In week one we will be reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We will look at sizes, measuring different objects and making comparisons. Looking at alliteration such as big, brown bear and gold, giggly girl. We will use the story for many art and craft activities including making resources for our role play area as the Three Bears Cottage. Children will be encouraged to continue to develop their communication and language skills through lots of discussion and acting out the story with their peers. Welly walks will also be carried out to our small woods to see if we can spot the bears!!

Week two we are looking at the story of The Gingerbread Man. We will use puppets to act out the story remembering the sequence of the story and learning who the characters are. We will do lots of fun activities, painting, cutting and sticking and playing games to help us learn and remember this story. Why not try and make a sock puppet at home about one of the characters in the story.

Week three we looked at the story of Red Riding Hood and re-told the story through acting, puppets, technology and books. We learnt the principal characters of the story and to re-tell a story in the correct sequence. We made a large wolf and Red Riding Hood for our display. She had to borrow someone's wellington boots to wear, now who's were they ?

Week four we are going to read The Three Little Pigs story and will use this to support our maths skills by finding groups of three and finding out what one more is and one less. We will look at the word Pig and think of other words that start with the same letter sound. We will be doing lots of activities to promote our listening skills including write-dance and one-minute listening from the website. Listen to some music at home and tell us which music you like listening to. You can bring some into nursery too.

Week five our story will be Jack and the Beanstalk. We will find out who is the tallest person in nursery and who is the shortest. We will find lots of things to measure and will make a tall beanstalk and display this with a height chart. We will taste beans, various sorts and talk about where they come from. How many types of beans do you know? We will also play a game to remember all the things that Jack removes from the giants castle to help order items in the order they appear in the story to help our memories.
